** Note: These
clubs will be offered all year long. At the end of this club session (October
10th) students will be given an opportunity to continue practicing
soccer or Capoeira all throughout the year.
Is transportation a
problem?
If your child would like to do a club but transportation is
a problem, consider talking with other parents to carpool and find alternative
rides. We have many families who live in Lago Sul and Asa Sul. If we help each
other we can find ways for students to participate in clubs and get home
safely.
** Also consider the “Hang Out Club” if you have multiple kids.
One son could do a club, while the other stays in the “Hang Out Club” with Mrs.
Knutson J.
Remember that students participating in
clubs must be picked up at 4:30pm.

are welcome! Space is limited in each
club so please turn in your registration form as soon as possible to reserve
your child’s spot.
2012 Clubs – September 5th to October
10th (6 sessions).
“Hang Out Club” - This club is open to students in Pre-K to 12th grade and it will be led by
Mrs. Renard along with parents who volunteer. This club is designed to help
families who have children doing multiple activities at BIS. In this club
students will have a chance to do their homework (by themselves without teacher
assistance), or simply hang out in the computer lab, use the internet, play
cards, etc… while their siblings are doing a different club. This way all
children can go home at the same time in one vehicle. Students in this club are
encouraged to bring a snack or bring cash to buy something from the “clubs
cantina”. This club is available to BIS
students only. Cost R$10.
Capoeira Club
- This club is open to students
in Kindergarten to 12th grade and it will be lead by Capoeira
instructor, Aladin, assisted by Ms.
Raquel. Capoeira is a Brazilian
dance/ martial art developed by the African slaves who helped colonized Brazil
in the 1500’s. Students will learn the fundamental steps (jinga) of capoeira,
along with different songs and moves that make up the capoeira experience. This
will be an amazing club and a great cultural Brazilian experience!
This club will be offered all year long. At the end
of this club session (October 10th) students will be given an
opportunity to continue practicing Capoeira (if they wish) all throughout the
year. Cost R$75.
Homework club:
This club is open to students in 3rd to 12th grade and
it will be lead by Mrs. Renard.
Students will be given the opportunity to work on their assignments and
homework after school in the computer lab. The teacher will assist students
with any questions they may have on their projects and homework. This club is available to BIS students only.
Cost R$75.
Soccer club (PreK4 to
2nd grade on Wednesday) - This club is open to students in
PreK4 to 2nd grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista.
Students will learn skills to improve their soccer and futsal game! We will
work on soccer fundamentals and team strategies. This club will be offered all
year long. At the end of this club session (October 10th)
students will be given an opportunity to continue practicing soccer (if they
wish) all throughout the year. Cost R$75.
Soccer club (3rd
to 9th grade on Tuesday and Thursday) - This club is open to
students in 3rd to 9th grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista.
Students will learn skills to improve their soccer and futsal game! We will
work on soccer fundamentals and team strategies. From this club we will make a
soccer team that will play and compete against other schools and clubs in
Brasilia. This club will be offered all
year long. At the end of this club session (October 10th)
students will be given an opportunity to continue practicing soccer (if they
wish) all throughout the year. Cost R$75.
Baking Club - This club is open to students in PreK3 to
12th grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Priscila. In this club
students will learn how to bake sweets and make other interesting
snacks. We will also put together a recipe book with all the recipes we
make this semester. This club can have a
maximum of 12 students. Cost R$75.
Softball/ Baseball
Club – This club is open to students in 5th to 12th
grade and it will be lead by Mr. Knutson. In this club students will learn
the rules and strategies of softball/baseball. Students will practice throwing,
catching and batting with official baseball gloves and bets (provided by the
school). This is one of the most popular sports in the world and it should be
great fun! Cost R$75.
Drama Club – This
club is open to students in 5th to 12th grade and it will
be lead by Mrs. Boggan. In this club students will learn different skits, how to perform on stage and also practice and
improve their acting skills. This club will be spectacular! Cost R$75.
