Brasilia International School – Club's description
Please check the after school club you would like your child to participate in. Clubs will meet from 3:30 pm until 4:30 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting on November 6th   and ending on November 28th .     Students must be picked up from BIS promptly at 4:30pm. Each club will meet a total of 4 weeks. Please send the appropriate amount with the signed form by Monday, November 4th . Space is limited in each club so please turn in your registration form as soon as possible to reserve your child's spot.

2013 Clubs - November - (4 sessions).
 
 
Capoeira Club -  This club is open to students in Kindergarten to 8th grade and it will be lead by Capoeira instructor, Aladin.  Capoeira is a Brazilian dance/ martial art developed by the African slaves who helped colonize Brazil in the 1500's. Students will learn the fundamental steps (jinga) of capoeira, along with different songs and moves that make up the capoeira experience. This will be an amazing club and a great Brazilian cultural experience! Cost R$85
 
Baking ClubThis club is open to students in Preschool 4 to 2nd  grade and it will be lead by Mrs Turner and Mrs Karol. In this club students will learn how to bake sweets and make other interesting snacks. We will also put together a recipe book with all the recipes we make this semester. This club can have a maximum of 12 students. Cost R$70.
 
Christmas Art Club -  This club is open to students in 3rd to 6th grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Elsa Pastro. In this club students will create fun Christmas artifacts using recyclable goods from home and from school. Used plastic bottles, used soda cans, recycled paper and much more will come together to make art masterpieces J. This club will have a maximum of 8 students. Cost R$60
 
Basketball club . This club is open to students in 3rd to 6th  grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista.  In this club we will practice basketball fundamentals (dribbling, shooting, passing) and team strategies for offense and defense. Cost R$60
 
Archery Club -  This club will be lead by Coach Batista and is open to students in 7th to 12th grade, with a maximum of 8 students (if space is available students in 5th and 6th grade may also join).   Students will learn the safety rules of the shooting range and the fundamental steps of archery. Students will practice shooting arrows from 10 meters and 15 meters. This will be an exciting and fun club. The school will provide the bows and arrows, but students are welcome to bring their own equipment if desired. Cost R$60.
 
 
Christmas Program Practice - Any high school student who has a speaking or acting part in the Christmas Program is strongly encouraged to join us on Wednesday afternoons as we prepare for another great Christmas program! We look forward to seeing you there! – Mrs. Boggan. Cost – free.

Thank you for all who participated in the first session of clubs. It was a great success! The first session is now over and the second session of clubs will begin on October 30th. So no clubs this week and next week (except for Capoeira Team). 
On the second round of clubs we will offer Basketball club, Archery club, and a few more that will soon be confirmed. More details coming up soon. Thanks for your support and Go Eagles!

2013 Clubs – September 3rd to October 10th    (6 sessions).

Tumbling Club -  This club is open to students in Preschool 4 to 2nd grade and it will be lead by Capoeira instructor, Aladin. In this club students will learn and practice (on the mat) forward and backwards roles, cart-wheels (left and right), hand-stands and more advanced moves with the assistance of the coach. Aladin is a tumbling expert and has a lot of experience with young children. Should be super fun! This club will have a maximum of 15 students. Cost R$85.

Creative Art Club -  This club is open to students in 3rd to 6th grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Tassa. In this club students will create fun artifacts using recyclable goods from home and from school. Tennis Club -  This club is open to students in 3rd to 6th grade on Wednesdays and 7th to 12th grade on Thursdays. Coach Batista is a tennis pro and he will teach students the fundamental strokes of tennis (forehand, backhand, volley and serve), the rules of the game, scoring and match play strategy. Should be GREAT fun!  This club will have a maximum of 8 students. Cost R$85


Make-up Club -  This club is open to students in 7th to 12th grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Axworthy.  In this club students will learn how to take care of their skin in addition to how to prepare and apply make-up. They will also learn how to use make-up that is appropriate for different settings. Cost R$85.


Website Club -  This club is open to students in 9th to 12th grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Fryar.  Ever wonder how a professional website is run?  Do you enjoy finding new programs on the computer and seeing how they work?  Want to be a reporter or a photographer?  Sign up for "Website Club" and help Mrs. Fryar with our new BIS website, newsletters, and the School Spirit Board!  This club is for 9-12th graders and is limited to only 4 students. Cost – free!

2013 Clubs – April 16th to May 23rd   (6 sessions).
 
"Video-game & Hang Out Club" This club is open to students in pre-school 4  to 12th grade and it will be led by Mr. Knutson. This club is designed to help families who have children doing multiple activities at BIS. In this club students will have a chance to play video-games on a BIG screen (wii, x-box, etc), play cards, do their homework (by themselves without teacher assistance), or simply hang out while their siblings are doing a different club. This way all children can go home at the same time in one vehicle. Students in this club are encouraged to bring a snack in case they get hungry. This club is available to BIS students only.  Cost R$25.

"Summer Camp" club  -  This club is open to students in Preschool 4 to 2nd grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Knutson. In this club students will play typical games of summer camp (like capture the flag, tug-of-war, etc) and make different snacks and crafts that are also part of the summer camp experience. This should be a super FUN club for the kids. Cost R$75.
 
"Summer Games" club . This club is open to students in 3rd to 8th  grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista.  In this club we will play several fun games that encourage team work, strategy, hard work and honesty. The summer games will include capture the flag, tug-of-war, water balloons and more! It will be a LOT of fun! Cost R$75.
 
Archery Club -  This club is open to students in 5th to 12th grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista.   Students will learn the safety rules of the shooting range and the fundamental steps of archery. Students will practice shooting arrows from 10 meters and 15 meters. This archery team will compete against other schools in the U.S. (virtual matches). This will be an exciting and fun club. The school will provide the bows and arrows, but students are welcome to bring their own equipment if desired. This club will have a maximum of 12 students. Cost R$75
 
Club for Parents of Third Culture Kids (TCKs). This club is open to all parents and it will be lead by Mrs. Boggan. Cost – Free.
Have you ever felt at a loss as to how help your children and keep your sanity as you travel and live all over the world? You are NOT alone!!! Join us as we share our experiences and help encourage one another as we raise children who will be the future world changers! Facilitated by Connie Boggan, the mother of seven TCKs, we will discuss ways we can help our children thrive in new cultures and adapt to the many changes and challenges they (and  we) face. 
Please don't let your limited English keep you from coming - we are all growing and learning together! See you there! This will be a free club.

** Note: This club will meet twice a week (students may come only once a week if needed), and it will go on for seven weeks (instead of 6 weeks, like the others). It will also be offered next session for the students that would like to continue to practice capoeira throughout the semester.

"Video-game & Hang Out Club" This club is open to students in pre-school 4  to 12th grade and it will be led by Mr. Knutson. Art ClubThis club is open to students in Preschool 4 to 2nd grade and it will be lead by Mrs. Priscila. This club will be open to 8 students. They will practice their fine motor skills while working with different types of art materials and learning about different artists. Cost R$75.
 
Basketball club . This club is open to students in 3rd to 7th  grade and it will be lead by Coach Batista.  In this club we will practice the fundamentals and strategies of basketball and play some games against other schools or clubs. The younger students that participated in Ms Dukes' basketball club last semester are welcome to join this club as well.  Cost R$75.
 
Painting club. This club is open to students in 3rd to 6th grade (on Wednesdays) and 7th – 12th grade (on Thursdays). Parents and adults are welcome to join this club on Thursdays.  This club will be taught by artist/painter Toni, who came to BIS last semester and demonstrated his tile painting skills. In this club students will learn from Toni how to draw and paint on tiles. Paint, tiles and other material will be provided. Each student will take their completed art work home. Cost R$100.
 
"BIS is a Christian School... What Are They Teaching My Kid?" club.
Miss Duke will be teaming up with Mr. Axworthy to offer a free club for parents as an introduction to what is being taught in Bible class and what is a Christian Worldview.  All BIS parents and other adults are invited to attend the club.  It will be a safe, learning environment in English that is open to help you answer your questions.  There will be a question box for parents to submit any questions, and we will try to answer them during the club. Cost – free!
